About

What h2oMatch is - and what it is not

h2oMatch is an independent platform for understanding and comparing mineral water. It was built in Italy in 2026 around a simple observation: mineral water labels carry real, meaningful data that almost nobody reads.

Sodium, calcium, magnesium, bicarbonate, fixed residue - these numbers vary enormously between waters and genuinely matter for hydration, nutrition, and taste. h2oMatch exists to make those differences visible and useful.

Why it was built

You will drink nearly 60.000 liters of water in your lifetime. Apart from air, nothing enters your body more consistently. And yet most people pick their water by brand, by bottle shape, or by whatever is on sale - without ever looking at what is actually in it.

Two bottles sitting side by side on the same supermarket shelf, both labeled 'natural mineral water', can easily differ in mineral content by a factor of 100 or even more. One may contain less than 1 mg/L of sodium; another over 1000 mg/L of sodium. These differences are real, they are measurable, and they are printed on every label - but without context, they are meaningless to most people.

h2oMatch was built to provide that context: a place to learn what those numbers mean, explore which waters stand out, compare compositions directly, and find the water that fits your specific profile, diet, and lifestyle.

What we cover

h2oMatch currently covers approximately 25-40 mineral waters per country across nine markets - France, Germany, Italy, Romania, Spain, the United Kingdom, Austria, Switzerland and the United States. These were chosen because they represent some of the most important and geologically diverse mineral water producing nations, with very different water profiles and consumer markets.

Famous for its high-calcium and low-sodium springs, including iconic brands from the Vosges and Alps

🇩🇪

Germany

Volcanic and limestone spring waters, many naturally sparkling

🇮🇹

Italy

From ultra-light alpine sources to calcium-rich Apennine springs

🇷🇴

Romania

Carpathian springs, strong therapeutic water tradition

🇪🇸

Spain

Mediterranean and mountain sources with diverse mineral profiles, from ultra-light to highly mineralized

🇬🇧

United Kingdom

Premium natural mineral waters from limestone and chalk aquifers across England

🇦🇹

Austria

Alpine springs with high mineralization, including some of the most calcium-rich waters in Europe

🇨🇭

Switzerland

From ultra-light Jura and Alpine sources to highly mineralized limestone springs

🇺🇸

United States

Curated selection of European mineral water brands widely available on the American market - the same waters, the same data, the same verified label values

The selection will continue to expand as the database grows.

For details on how we collect, verify, and update our mineral water data - and a clear explanation of what h2oMatch is and isn't - see our methodology page.

Independence and editorial policy

h2oMatch has no commercial relationships with any mineral water brand. We do not accept advertising, sponsored placements, or payments from brands to influence rankings, scores, or editorial content.

No water brand can pay to appear higher in results, receive a better compatibility score, or be featured in content. Every score is calculated using the same algorithm applied uniformly across all waters in the database.

The waters included in h2oMatch were selected based on their commercial availability in the covered markets and the availability of verified label data - not on any commercial consideration.

What h2oMatch does not do

Transparency about limitations is as important as describing what works. h2oMatch is a tool for informed comparison - not a substitute for medical advice, and not a universal ranking of water quality.

Information, not advice

h2oMatch shares mineral water data, not medical recommendations. See our methodology →

It does not rank waters as universally 'best' or 'worst'

A high h2oMatch Score means a water fits your profile - not that it is objectively superior. A water that scores low for one person may be ideal for another. h2oMatch does not have a universal quality ranking.

It does not cover taste exhaustively

Mineral composition gives strong signals about how a water will taste - but taste is also influenced by factors we do not measure: water temperature, container material, individual sensitivity, regional water culture. Our taste guidance is directional, not definitive.

It does not guarantee data completeness

Not every parameter is available for every water. When a value is missing from the database - because it is not disclosed on the label or in official documentation - it is excluded from the scoring calculation, and the remaining parameters are renormalized accordingly.

Contact and feedback

If you notice a data error, a missing water, or an outdated value, we want to know. The database improves through use, and corrections from people who know these waters well are genuinely valuable.
