Highest Calcium Mineral Waters in Europe

Discover mineral waters with high calcium levels, based on official label data.

This ranking lists the European mineral waters with the highest declared calcium content in the h2oMatch database. Under EU rules, a water with more than 150 mg/L calcium may carry the indication ‘contains calcium’, and every water below exceeds that threshold several times over.

Highest Calcium Mineral Waters in Europe (Top Selection)

These are among the mineral waters with the highest calcium levels in Europe included in the h2oMatch database.

WaterCountryCalcium (mg/L)
Fonte Essenziale🇮🇹 Italy593
Aqua Römer🇦🇹 Austria569
Adelbodner🇨🇭 Switzerland564
Hépar🇫🇷 France549
Courmayeur🇮🇹 Italy549

All five waters in this ranking are highly mineralized, with more than 500 mg/L calcium and a fixed residue above 2000 mg/L. Beyond calcium, they differ in magnesium, sodium and bicarbonate, so their taste and overall mineral profile can vary noticeably.

Calcium in European Mineral Water

Calcium enters mineral water mainly by dissolving from limestone, chalk, dolomite and gypsum. The longer groundwater stays in contact with these rocks, the higher its calcium concentration, which is why deep sources in carbonate and gypsum-bearing regions dominate this ranking, while alpine and granite springs generally contain much less calcium.

High calcium can come with very different mineral profiles. Waters rich in calcium and bicarbonate, such as Gerolsteiner, tend to have a rounder mineral character, while calcium-sulfate waters such as Hépar or Courmayeur can taste more pronounced and are typically more mineralized overall.

FAQ

How should I read the calcium values in this ranking?

Each value is the calcium content declared on the bottle label, in milligrams per litre: a water with 549 mg/L supplies 549 mg of calcium in every litre. The highest values come from deep limestone, dolomite and gypsum-bearing springs.

Which is the highest calcium mineral water in Europe?

Fonte Essenziale (Italy, 593 mg/L) leads Europe, followed by AQUA RÖMER (Austria, 569 mg/L) and Adelbodner (Switzerland, 564 mg/L).

Do high-calcium mineral waters taste different from lighter waters?

Yes. High-calcium waters, especially when they also contain substantial bicarbonate or sulfate, often have a fuller and more pronounced mineral taste than lightly mineralized waters. The overall taste depends on the complete mineral profile, not calcium alone.

All values are based on official mineral water labels and the h2oMatch database.
